REEL BIG FISH – Cheer Up - ADAM
Listening to this, the 4th Reel
Big Fish long player (5th if you count UK only best of –
‘Favourite Noise’) you realise that they really aren’t going to change in
anyway, at least musically. The
only song on this record that wouldn’t slot in completely unnoticed to their
last LP, ‘Why Do They Rock So Hard?’, is the ska-stadium rock piss take
‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Is Bitchin’’ which, to be fair, is just disturbing.
Lyrically, this is a darker record, and it is clear that Aaron has
experienced a relationship break-up whilst writing this record.
However, the Reel Big Fish theory really does seem to be ‘if it ain’t
broke, don’t fix it’ and this is a great, fun record that will have you
skanking all year round. If you want a bit of variety in you ska-punk then go listen
to Five Knuckle, Capdown or Big D, but if it’s a party that you’re after,
grab this and boogie on down until your heart explodes. (7)
