4ft Fingers, Mr Zippy, SCC and Mr Belding, Exeter Cavern Club, 20-03-03
Mr
Belding have gotten a lot better since the Mini-Punkfest, both getting more
confident and starting to phase out the little shouty songs and bad in-jokes in
favour of more controlled songs which show the talent of the band, not just the
juvenility. Mr Belding, we love you
but you don’t half get annoying! (6)
Second Class Citizens
seemed a bit out of place on this bill, but they always seem so to me anyway. A
bit too rocky for the punks and too punky for the metallers (clichéd, but
true), never the less they stuck at it as always and seem to be enjoying
themselves. Got the crowd moving well and although Second Class Citizens
aren’t my particular cup of tea they were entertaining and kudos to them for
the effort put in. (7)
Mr
Zippy were pushed hard to entertain a crowd mainly there for 4ft but they
managed amazingly well. They
managed to get a pit going out of nothing and made the audience feel that they
not only belonged with the band but they were mates with them too.
Which is always a good thing to do.
The set go a bit tiresome but songs about wanking make it all better.
I mean, how can a band be boring if the get the audience to admit to
masturbation? I don’t know…the
cheeky chappies… (9)
