MR ZIPPY INTERVIEW
How's the new album gone down with the
fans?
-Very well so far, which we're all happy
about. The way we work in Mr.Zippy is that we have written an album of music
that we all like and really enjoy playing, it's still us, it's still punk rock
but it is very different from our first album and we were a bit scared of
disapointing or alienating people with what we had created. Luckily the response
has been two thumbs up all round, so we must have done something right.
Any favourite song off the album?
-My personal favourites are 'Saftey Net'
and 'Longfinger' but I think if you asked the whole band, in turn you'd get the
whole album. a lot more emotion, blood and sweat went into these songs so I
guess there's a part of us all left in them.
Which is the best song to play live?
-I think that will be a song called
'Weekday Mornings' which we're still working on doing live so we can do it the
best justice that we can. It's a very long, very involved, organic song.
Who have you played with recently that
people should check out?
-The Mingers kick ass, Evervesent are great
guys, Freaks Union blew me away, Amazing Wille & The Treehouse Gang are
going places for sure, there's been some great bands on this tour, great to make
new mates too!
Are you sick of touring yet?
-Are you kidding? As soon as this tour is
over I'll be on the phone trying to get us back out again.
And what has kept you going on tour?
-The rest of the guys in the band and in
4FT make everyday like a naughty boys school trip. I've had some pretty good
books and comics to read, the whole experience has been fantastic.
Any good tour stories that we can laugh at?
-Hmmm, there are a few I guess, but what
ones can I tell you, ha ha! We all saw Corey Taylor from Slipknot/Stonesour in
Subway in Manchester, umm there was one time when we all stayed in a huge house
together and the party was so crazy that it involved running through fields
naked and driving a motorised lawn mower around a small village!
What are you listening to at the moment?
-THE MISNOMER, a great band from
Basingstoke, also on my playlist is INTENSITY, POISON THE WELL and SATANIC
SURFERS.
Who would you say are your main influences?
-It's hard to say, as a collective band we
always refer to bands such as SATANIC SURFERS, FACE TO FACE and MILLENCOLIN as
they are the three bands we all agree on and really like. We started 10 years
ago now, so when people try and compare us to current bands it's pretty funny,
they start comparing us to bands that we've never even heard of - ha ha!
Mr.Zippy is just fast melodic punk rock with a conscience and humour and our own
take!
What are your hopes for 'Ambition Is
Critical'?
-I just hope it sells and that people like
what we have done, I really hope people enjoy it.
Plans to release a single off it?
-Not as yet no, I don't think we're really
a 'singles' band. To have single I guess you gotta promote the single and that
opens up a whole new can of worms...I"d be happy to do a single with say
perhaps 3 extra rare tracks or something like that...in the end I guess I just
want people to have the album, ha ha!
Anything else coming up that we should know
about?
-Look out for us playing with Golf Records
buddies GASH in the summer, should be good!
