Leatherface - Dog Disco
There is something I really love about this
music. I'm not quite sure what it is though.
The music is basically catchy punk with chain smoker vocals. This might be part
of it, a vocalist who doesn't sound like Tom Delonge on helium. There is an
annoying trend among bands to resort to nasal American singing, even in British
bands, so it is a joy to hear such a distinctive voice.
Another thing I like is the way I feel when listening to it. Even if the lyrics
are negative or complaining it still makes me grin and sing along. There's an
amazing sense of hope and optimism that shines through here. And I need all the
hope I can get. The best songs on the album for this are Hoodlum and Heart is
Home.
There's a good variety here too. The majority of it sounds quite similar but it
is punctuated by tracks like Raga, where the drummer takes over on lead vocals,
and Plastic Surgery, a much slower song. This helps to make the album very
listenable as it never gets boring.
I'm struggling to find a complaint. The only thing that really bugs me is the
sequencing of Rabbit Pie Alibi (the fastest song on the album) directly after
Plastic Surgery (the slowest) but this hardly detracts from the listening
experience.
